Welcome to the memorial page for

Joyce M. Giddins

January 23, 1937 ~ January 10, 2018 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Our beloved, Joyce Maria Giddins, daughter of the late Edward and Lorraine Chapman was born on January 23, 1937 in Baltimore, MD. Sadly on January 10, 2018 Joyce departed this life and was called to eternal rest.

Joyce received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. It was at Dunbar where Joyce’s passion for nursing started. After graduating, she began her career in nursing where she landed a job at John Hopkins Hospital where she would work for several years, until moving on to University of Maryland Medical Center where she would retire after 30 years of service.

Joyce was married to Howard Giddins on September 23, 1967. They shared family, happiness and love for many years before Howard was called to eternal rest.

Joyce was very active in her community. Upon retirement she would dedicate her time to help out with foster care and day care. Joyce would also volunteer at recreation centers, and all throughout Baltimore City Public School System.

Joyce who was affectionately known as "Mommy" or “Grandma” to many and was like a mother to all who came into her world. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family especially at family gatherings and during the holidays. She enjoyed watching movies, wrestling and sports with her grandchildren when they were younger. Her door was always open and she was always willing to help out and give support to who ever needed it. But, be prepared because she would hold no punches in what she would say. When it came to her family no matter if they were right or wrong she was always there for them. Her kids would tell her “We have 99 problems but a babysitter is not one” Joyce would say "Like Hell! But just buy me a Pepsi and a sandwich." as she would laugh. Joyce will be especially remembered for her loving and caring ways.

Joyce was preceded in death by husband, Howard Giddins, daughter, Angela Chapman, sister, Florence Harris, son in law, James Lewis and brother in law, Milton Whitener.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Glynda, Kim, Deborah, Terry, Towanda and Krystal, a devoted godson Lacey Davis, ten grandchildren, Towanda, Stacy, Tracey, Gary, Montez, Cory, Isiah, Joshua, Daryus, and Skylar, thirteen great grandchildren, RayShawn, Daniel, Diamond, Aniyah, Taniyah, Montez ,Autumn, Dillon, Kamond, Tanara, Tamonte, Harlym, and Harley, one great-great granddaughter Korri, and special niece Tonya Ashcroft (who was raised by Joyce), sisters, Carolyn Whitener and Lorraine Williams, brother, Charles Chapman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joyce will always remain in our hearts and will be truly missed.
