On Sunday Morning July 8, 2018 with her family at church together, JoAnne E. Harris Simpson was transitioned to the Heavenly Choir. Her transition was done her way, with her family at church together, praising the Lord.
Born the first child of the late John Huff and Louise V. Huff, JoAnne was always the protector, supporter and provider of family. She cared for her grandmother-Mamie, Mother-Louise, siblings, husband and children. In fact, she cared and provided for everyone. JoAnne believed in servant leadership. She led quietly and served others. JoAnne was predeceased by her mother, geat grandmother and siblings: Bertt, Elmer and Ronald.
On June 20, 1964, JoAnne married Augustus Simpson (aka-Reds, Gus), from this union were born two pretty, smart and intelligent girls, Antoinette (aka-Poochie) and Dr. Angelique. JoAnne and Gus made sure Antionette and Dr. Angelique had the best education possible.
A native Baltimorean, JoAnne was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She was a graduate of the Dunbar High School Class of 1964 where she was a member of the tennis team, theater company and city choir. JoAnne continued her education at Baltimore City Community College earning an Associate's Degree in Computer Science. She furthered her education at Towson State University with a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business and Finance in December 1982. It is important to note, JoAnne did all of this while taking care of her family Antoinette was a freshman at Dillard University and Angelique was a freshman at Mercy High School. JoAnne worked for Baltimore City over 25 years in various capacities. When she retired, she was recognized as one of the first African American Female Supervisors in the Baltimore City Office of Information Systems.
When you think about JoAnne, think about her smile, infectious laugh and ability to serve. She always believed in being kind and doing what is best for her family and close friends.
