Garfield Miller Obituary

Deacon Garfield Miller (Sonnie) was born to the late Lily Marie
Miller and Otho Miller on January 8, 1946 in Mount Pleasant
Cabarrus, North Carolina. He began his education in North
Carolina in his earlier years and later continued in the Baltimore
City Public Schools System. On January 18, 2019 after a
lengthy illness, the Lord called him home.

Gareld was better known to his family and friends as “Sonnie”.
He made numerous friends wherever he went and will be
sincerely missed by everyone who truly knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his son, Glenn Delly and grandson
Terron Singleton and four sisters Mary Ruth, Lena, Hannah
Patricia, Sadie and Ann Miller.

Sonnie was employed by the Baltimore City Public Schools
System and spent majority of his years at the Baltimore School
for the Arts, where he was well-known and loved by his
colleagues. He had many personal relationships with both sta
and students. He retired after 37 years of service.
Sonnie was baptized at an early age. He joined the New Good
Samaritan Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon
under the leadership of Pastor Donald Palmore. He was also a
member of the Men of Faith male chorus where he was a
dedicated member. He later joined Rebirth Outreach Ministry
under the leadership of Reverend Gregory Lee. As a member,
Sonnie was committed to the outreach of community.

Sonnie had a heart of gold and a smile that he wore even at his
darkest moments. You could be a female from age 1 to 100, but
to Sonnie you will always be “Baby Girl”. He was an awesome
listener, although he was quiet, when he spoke it was done
with wisdom and knowledge.

He leaves to mourn: Four daughters Airene and Tashika Miller,
Trinda and Glenda Howard. 2 special baby girls Danielle and
Delsharn Moncur, 1 brother-in-law Terry Delly. 2 sisters-in-law
Desarae and Tablytha Delly. One god daughter Arnesha Reives,
15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Beloved
friends and family: Patricia Yvette Miller (niece) Cheryl Delly
(niece) Devin Miller (nephew), Veatrice Bowles, Lamarr Tucker,
Maleik Carter, Antoine Furgeson, Arnetta Moncur, Dorothy
Davis, Eltenease Davis-Lee, Robert Harrison, Lisa Peels,
Reverand Gregory Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Stanton, Will Smith, Ruth

Trezevant the BSA family and a host of family and friends.
