Emma Toles, the youngest daughter of the late Richard O. and Lolar Toles, was born on May 3, 1934 in Stafford County, Virginia. Her life’s journey ended on October 22, 2018 when God reached out his hand of Mercy and called her home.
She received her education in Stafford County and Baltimore, Maryland. Emma’s work career included Read’s Drug Store, The Baltimore City Health Department and Kennedy Krieger Institute for many years until she retired.
Emma was known for her “Signature Potato Salad” that was prepared and as one would say “she put her foot in it”. It was enjoyed by all at many family gatherings and many other occasions.
She loved her hometown of Virginia and would make yearly trips to visit her family; including her church home, Shiloh Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by: her daughter, Margaret Toles; grandsons, Kevin Winn and Norman Steiniger; three sisters, Julia Smith, Occilee Asbell and Isabell Toles; and her life-long companion, Demery J. Epps.
She leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters, Thelma (Elton) Winn, Theresa (Avery) Bentley, and Gracie Carr; four grandchildren, Tamika Little, DeShante Barnes, Michael (Tiffany) Winn, Jason (Nicole) Winn; seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, stepchildren and step-grandchildren, family and friends.
