Cynthia Paula Powell was born on June 17, 1950 to the late Willie O. Powell and Essie C. Powell. She departed this life on December 21, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Cynthia received her education in Baltimore, Maryland. She later moved to Detroit, Michigan where she continued to pursue her education and career and became a LPN in December of 1973. Cynthia then moved back to Baltimore where she was employed at John L. Deaton Medical Center. Her passion for patients of all ages was phenomenal, she took great pride in her job taking care of people. She worked the evening shift for many years. Cynthia would switch holidays with her coworkers if needed so they could spend time with their children as long as she had New Years off to enjoy with her family and friends. In 1988, Cynthia met a young lady Tya Staton who she mentored at Deaton and also had a passion for healthcare who after awhile considered Tya as her god daughter. Cynthia never had children, but had a special bond with each of her nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Cynthia was a shopoholic who bought everything in two's just different colors. She had a purse collection big enough to have a boutique. She loved playing cards, board games and other fun activities with family and friends. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, Cynthia would purchase food to make baskets for families in need, we would call her “Bea Gaddy Jr.” Cynthia begin to have health problems when she had to retire, but she still tried to care for people the best she could. She later moved in with one of her favorite nieces Shawn where she resided until having to stay in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. Cynthia had one god son, Christopher Smith and one sister in-law, (Si) and Joanna Powell who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories one brother, Willie (Bunny) Powell; two sisters, Crystal Powell and Gwendolyn Powell Watson; 4 nephews, Steven, Melvin, Tyrell and Marcus; 4 nieces, Tonia, Shawn, Tara and Lakisha; 1 brother in-law, William (Si) Watson Jr.; 5 great nephews, Jaylen, Nicholas, Keyon, Marcus Jr., Kemar; 2 great nieces, Jasmine, Khameel and other grand nieces, Camira nephew, Ayden relatives and Mytia friends; special friends Tya Staton, Pauline Smith, Deborah Lomax, Deborah Handy and Eugene Mcway.
