Carolyn Whitener Obituary

An amazing woman, CAROLYN THELMA WHITENER, was born on February 23, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. Affectionately known as "Grandma", she was the middle daughter of the late Mr. Edward Chapman and Mrs. Lorraine Chapman. To those who knew her, she was mommy's little girl.

Carolyn was introduced to the lord at Faith Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD. where she was baptized at an early age. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked tirelessly for John Hopkins Hospital in Patient Transport for over 38 years. On March 10, 1962 Carolyn Chapman married the love of her life Mr. Melton L. Whitener and from this union, five children were born.

Carolyn was known for her case in frequent conversation with even total strangers and made numerous friends wherever she went. She found joy in walking (as she would say, "walking was never crowded"), hanging out with friends at Tuckers and Townes lounge, and sitting in the living room yelling at the television (saying "get the ball, get the ball') while watching her Basketball & Football games.

Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple, but bold demeanor that won the trust, respect and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing, love and care. Her signature gift of joy shown through her constant smiling, laughter and joking around, will never be forgotten. Carolyn loved the Lord and was indeed a family woman and friend. She will be missed by all, but the most by her "girls" Kamarii (Ms.K) and Charlei (Ms.C)..

On November 2, 2019, Carolyn responded to the gentle voice of God calling her home. She was a true and living testament of God's grace-exhibiting her strength, humorous manner and abundant faith.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory, her Husband Melton L. Whitener who preceded her in death, three daughters; Yolanda who preceded her in death, Evania and Lynell. Two sons who both preceded her in death, Ricky and Melton Jr., four siblings, Joyce and Florence who preceded her in death, Lorraine and Charles. Eight grandchildren, Tarae, Edward, Tierra, Brittany, LaQuiera, LaTiera, Bridgette and Dionte, sixteen great-grandchildren, two sisters in laws, Gloria and Barbara, one brother-in-law Jerome, two special friends, Melvina and Gloria, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved her dearly.
