Welcome to the memorial page for

Anna J. Jackson

June 28, 1940 ~ January 1, 2018 (age 77) 77 Years Old

ANNA JEWEL JACKSON was born on June 28, 1940, to the late Roger "Jake" Green and the late Ethel Vashti Jackson, in Baltimore, Maryland. As an infant, Anna was adopted by the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gaddy. She and her foster brother, John Gaddy, Jr., (who preceded her in death), were both raised by The Gaddys in a loving, Christian home.

Anna was a product of East Baltimore, where she attended the Baltimore City Public Schools and was a graduate of the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

Anna was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Raymond "Turk" Jackson in 1958. Together, they raised their family and remained together until his passing in 2011.

Anna gained employment at MaMa Mia's Restaurant and Carry-Out from the mid 1960's until 1983 (which is still opened on the corners of Monument Street and Broadway).

At an early age, she was baptized at the Historic First Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, on N. Caroline St. On January 30, 1983,  Anna joined the Israel Baptist Church through Christian Experience, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Edmond D. Meade, Sr.

Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved her family and enjoyed having family gatherings, cooking and having a good time! Anna was known for her delicious barbeque pig feet and sweet potato pies. She was often asked by family and friends to prepare her famous rice pudding and /or her pasta salad for their special events and get-togethers.

Anna's desire was to rest and remain at her own home during her illness where she could be with her daughters and loved ones. On New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, 2018, Anna Jewel Jackson, quietly transitioned from this earthly home, to be in the presence of the Lord, to join her loved ones who have gone on before. Anna had a beautiful spirit, a lovely smile and was loved by everyone. She will be truly missed.

Anna leaves behind fond and cherished memories with; her three daughters, Sabrina (Johnnie) Gaines, Vernonette Gaddy and Ramonia Jackson; three granddaughters, Tamara Bailey, Quiana Anderson and Lawan Ringgold; two great-grandchildren, Dominic McFatten and Zoe' Anderson; three great-great grandchildren, McKenzie, Denim and Alijah McFatten; one step-daughter, Noma Boynton and her sons, Bobby, Darnell and David Boynton; brother-in-law, Melvin Jackson; special cousins, Rhonda Bradley and family of Suffolk, Virginia, William and Edith Jackson, Joan and Michael Jackson, Reginald and Vivian Jackson, Denise Johnson of Fredericksburg, Maryland; special and dear friends, Marion Jordan, Beatrice Williams, Joann Morton, Dorothy Lee Bollin and Theodore Butler; Anna had a special bond with the following nieces and nephews; Sondra Wood, Donald Wood, Jr., Elaine Barber, Dorothy Jackson and Melvina Jackson; God-daughters, Angels Ellis-Urquhart, Margaret Connors, Lenora Monroe, Marsha Lann, Kimberly Bias, Darlene Brown, Bobbi Green and Denise Lee; nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
