SUSANNA OPHELIA JACKSON, daughter of the late George Harrison and Lizzie Fasion, was born on November 19, 1929, in Halifax, North Carolina. Ophelia, as she was affectionately known, quietly went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2010, after battling leukemia.
Ophelia lived a portion of her life in Halifax County, North Carolina, and attended Nash County Public Schools. She later moved to Washington, DC. She resided in Washington, DC until she decided to migrate to Baltimore, Maryland where she made permanent residence for the duration of her life.
Ophelia held many positions during her career; however, her passion was taking care of the elderly and making sure that their homes were immaculate. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She had a keen sense of humor, and always liked to stay on the go. Ophelia was also very well known for her outstanding cooking. She loved to cook for others and challenged everyone to cook as well as she did.
Ophelia had three sisters, Louise Jackson, Mary Smith, and Marjorie Thorne; and one brother, Johnny Harrison. They all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: five loving children, Brenda Cater, Karen Evans, Shawn Evans, Carolyn Jackson and James Jackson, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Donna Jackson; one son-in-law, Carroll Carter; nine grandchildren (one who preceded her in death), thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
