HAROLD LINDBURGH CLAIBORNE, SR. was born in Brunswick County, Va. on July 23, 1935 to the late Harry and Vearlie Prince Claiborne. He departed this life on May 22, 2010 after an extensive illness.
Harold received his education in Emporia, Va. public school system. As a young man, he worked at Gulf Gas station and numerous jobs in the state of Va. until he arrived in Baltimore, MD. in the 1950's. In 1956, Harold began working at Bethlehem Steel, where he remained for 41 years and 9 months before retiring. He was a member of several congregations before he was baptized into the body of Christ at East Baltimore Church of Christ at Belair Road.
On August 15, 1957, Harold married Annie H. Robinson and they were the proud parents of three children. Sheila, Harold Lindburgh,Jr., and Jarvis. Harold is best described by those close to him as ''the rock'' of his family. The third eldest of fourteen children, Harold acted in many ways as the family patriarch. He knew the importance of a strong family bond and he spearheaded regular family gatherings with his immediate and extended family. Harold was a hard-working man who took tremendous pride in caring for his family and he did so with enthusiasm. Harold was an all around hands-on master craftsman and he was always eager to pass his gift down to any willing apprentice. Some of his many interests included cooking, hunting, fishing, watching sporting events, spending time with his dog, Sheba, and coaching little league baseball. Most of all, Harold enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends--just''catching up'' and sharing memories.
