Richard Scruggs , Jr. Obituary

Richard Jerome Scruggs Jr. was born on August 12, 1961 to Romaine Scruggs and the late Richard Jerome Scruggs Sr. It was God’s designed plan to call him home on March 16, 2018 because all of his assignments had been completed.  He whispered come into your eternal rest.

Richard affectionately known as Romie or Fats was educated in the Baltimore City schools and graduated from the Baltimore City College High School.  He worked for Oles Envelope Company, Stella Maris, Walker Mews and H&S Bakery. Romie also worked as a construction worker and attended the RE Michael’s Training Course where he received his CFC License for Chloral Floral Carbonation.  All in all he was known as “Mr. Fix It”. He could fix anything and if he couldn’t he would create away. He loved to work in high , tight spots like roofs , behind furnaces ,climbing high ladders and up in trees. He even hid the eggs  for the family Easter Egg Hunt up in trees. We would ask him “how were the kids going to find them up that high ?”and he would reply “they will figure it out”.

Romie accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of  the late Rev. Clarence E. Poole Sr.

When Rev. Poole established the Mt. Zion Hill Baptist Church ,  Fats followed his leadership and continued his walk with Christ singing in the funeral home right into its current location.  Fat’s and the Poole family would sing everywhere. Romie loved hymns like the Old Rugged Cross, and would sing I won’t complain and I know what prayer can do. He loved singing with the MZH Mass Choir and the Male Chorus.

His compassion for his family, wife, mom, children, brothers, sisters, .nieces , nephews and in-laws was contagious. He would do anything for them. But when it came to the Raven’s and sports watch out!!! He loved talking smack and stats with Shawny. When it came to Sabree, Cheri and Todd he would go the last mile to make them smile.  God’s plan that week was for him to visit MZH one more time, send a text to Sue and the kids and tell them he loved them, hug mom and tell he loved her, spend all day with Keith, stop by and take care of Cheri & Shawny (his girls) take care of aunt Carolyn , talk to Todd one more time and go home to mom and Terrance. Mission accomplished!!!, Hallelujah I am free….

He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life , wife Lana Shivers – Scruggs, his  devoted mother Romaine Scruggs,  children Sabree, Cheri, Todd (Pamela), Sisters, Cheri, Robin, Teria, Dominique, brothers, Keith, Terrance, Darius, Michael, Anthony, 3 grandchildren Cheronda, Caiden, Todd Jr. , 2 sister in-laws, 2 brother in-laws, several nieces and nephews, Best Friend Leonard Lambert, Poole Family, and cousin Juan Hunter.
