II Timothy 4:7
Mildred Lewis (N'ee Baylor) entered the world on April 1, 1956 to the late John
Baylor and Mattie Burrell Baylor. Mildred departed this life and
ascended into glory on December 2, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
As a child, Mildred would accompany her grandmother Lillie Burrell
Comer along with her cousin, to spend every summer in Clarksville, VA.
It was during this period Mildred gave her life to Christ.
There was no question about Mildred’s love and devotion for her sons
Gordon (Nookie) and Melvin. Mildred worked hard to create a stable
home and strong family foundation, many times under challenging
conditions. Mildred was very family oriented and developed long
lasting relationships within her various extended families over the
years. She would keep her sons involved in these familial relationships,
which they still cherish to this day.
After the death of her mother, Mildred was the unofficial matriarch of
the family and was highly regarded by her siblings, nieces and
nephews whom looked to her for advice and guidance. Even though
she gave birth to two sons, she was a maternal figure to many. In 2013
Mildred began caring for Tremaine as a newborn who she grew to love
as her own son.
Mildred attended Baltimore City Public Schools. She relocated to
Atlanta, Georgia in 1994 for career opportunities. Upon her return to
Baltimore in the early 2000s, Mildred began her career at Broadway
Services as the Front Office Coordinator. Mildred was well liked by her
coworkers and enjoyed various activities with them including fishing,
which was one of her favorite pastimes. Mildred was presented the
“Broadway’s Best” award for outstanding performance.
Mildred enjoyed shopping, dining out, eating crabs, “Jumble” puzzles,
playing cards and spending time with friends and family.
In 2015 Mildred entered into a relationship with her childhood
sweetheart Niles Ringgold Sr., whom would later become her husband
on September 9, 2017. Mildred and Niles enjoyed traveling with family
and friends, going to plays and social gatherings. Since Mildred and
Niles grew up together and their families had close ties it was easy for
them rekindle the love they had for one another. In spite of Mildred’s
illness the time that they spent together brought the both of them joy
and happiness. Niles was a committed husband who was by her side
until the end.
Mildred is preceded in glory by her parents John Baylor and Mattie
