MICHAEL MAURICE JONES, was born on October 9, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland to Walter Jones and Constance E. Jones. Michael went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, February 3, 2017.
Michael was educated in the Baltimore City Public School Systems. After leaving school he started his work career at Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point. While working at Bethlehem Steel Michael learned how to be a professional painter. He was often recommended and hired to do residential paint jobs outside of work. Michael went on to work for Baltimore City Public Works and there he was trained to do masonry work, and again he was often sought after to do side projects. His last place of employment was with Nino's Fresh Pizza Dough Distributors.
From an early age Michael loved everything that had anything to do with outdoors. As a young boy he was often involved in various childhood games, particularly playing baseball in Kirk Field. Much like his mother Michael loved music (particularly James Brown) and one of his favorite past-times was listening to old school music with his sister Jo-Ann (as loud as possible).
Even though Michael was a very independent person with a strong-will, he was very outgoing and a people person. it seemed like everybody in East Baltimore knew Mike Jones, in fact everyone that knew Michael loved Michael. If you were to walk down the street with him, all you heard from corner to corner was, "Hey, Mike Jones!" Michael's favorite stomping grounds in East Baltimore were Washington Street (where he lived for more than 25 years), Kirk Avenue, Robb Street, Kennedy Avenue, Abbotston Street and Carswell Street. It was hanging in these neighborhoods where he met Carolyn Doles his teenage sweetheart and from their relationship was birthed Michael's only daughter Octavia Jones.
The most important part of Michael's life was that he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior; it was just a few weeks before his passing he told his nephew Corey, that he knew the Lord. In the days leading up to his death many members of the family made sure he knew that God loved him.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother Constance "Kizzy" Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Octavia Jones Martin and son-in-law Brian Martin; one grandson, Keyon Anderson; one great-granddaughter, Kaliah Anderson; his father Walter J. Jones; three sisters Jean Williams, Jacqueline Epps and Jo-Ann Coleman; one brother Alan Jones and sister-in law Bettie Jones; two aunts, Verna Melton and Allie(Lump) Cooper; nieces, nephews and cousins, a long -time devoted friend Mervine (Cotton) White and a host of other relatives and friends.
