Martha Thomasine Jordan

July 19, 1945 ~ April 23, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Martha Thomasine Jordan, affectionately called "Thomasine" by family and friends, the widow of the late James Jordan, Sr., and the daughter of the late Helen Roberta and Edward Dallas Ford was born on July 19, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland. On April 23, 2017, our Lord and Savior summoned an angel to escort Thomasine to her heavenly home.

Thomasine received her education in the Baltimore City Public school System. She truly valued education and she was greatly involved in her children’s education. She participated in the parent involvement program in her children’s schools.

Thomasine met and married the love of her life, James Jordan. From that union the Lord blessed them with a wonderful family. Their strength held the family together.

Thomasine loved the Lord, and she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.

There was a church that sent a bus to her neighborhood every Sunday, Eastside Church of Christ. Thomasine made sure that she and her children were on it. A few years later she and her children became members of Brown’s Memorial Baptist Church where she and her sister’s family worshipped together. After a time she found a church closer to home, Mount Sinai Baptist Church, and that’s where she stayed until illness prevented her from going.

Thomasine loved her family, friends and neighbors so much that her caring spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. She was always a helper to those in need; those who needed food, shelter and clothing. She would be on the phone trying to get services for them, many times they stayed with her family.

In her last days she asked family members to pray with her and for her. She asked them to read scripture to her, especially Psalm 27. As the family read the scripture, she recited it with them. She really liked the part, "…Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait I say on the Lord."

Cherishing her Memory: her devoted children, Marva L. Hursey, Eric D. Hursey (Peggy), Osie M. Hursey, Vivien M. Hursey, Yolanda L. Cawthorn (Gregory), and James E. Jordan (Nicole); her loving sister, Clarice M. Day (William); her loving brothers, Edward D. Ford, Jr. (Tamika), Herbert Shields Jr. (Marcia); brother-in-law, Joe Willie Jordan, sisters-in-law, Ann Ford, Daisy Rhames (John), Dorothy Jordan, and Reba Roseborough; grandchildren, Krystal Hursey, Shawda Moore, Jerod Moore, Danielle Jones, Dar’rell Jones, Corey Kimble (Tajanae), Kayla Cawthorn, Eric D. Hursey, Jr., Kiauna Colbert, Jonathan Holman, Tawneisha Cherry, Justin Jordan, the late Tyrone Jackson and Taijah Kimble, great-grandchildren, Erin Pringle, Erin Hursey, Keshawna Harris, Dayonna Franklin, Tristan Kimble, and Jayce Kimble; Sister-Cousins, Vivien R. Lee, Gloria J. Howard; Godchildren, Nathaniel Suggs, Justin White, Brandy Wright, and April Blackwell; Best Friends, Leslie Kimble, Jeannette Bennett (Dynamite); a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Thomasine’s words to everyone, everyday were:
