Welcome to the memorial page for

Margie R. Gorham

October 6, 1938 ~ December 4, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Memory of the departure flight of my mother, my sister, my aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and cousin. Angel to some and a beloved friend to many, was born to now deceased parents Jack and Emma Gorham, October 6, 1938 on a farm in Pitt County within the township of Farmville, North Carolina in a Christian home to parents with a very strong faith in God.

The name of Margie was given to his girl who would have eight sisters and seven brothers with Margie being child number nine. Eight of these sixteen children preceded Margie in death; brothers Luther Sr., Jack Jr., Blaine Sr., Robert, Ollie Sr., and sisters Minnie Austin, Mary Whitley and Annie Smith.

Margie accepted Christ as her savior at age fifteen and joined the Moyes Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, North Carolina, where she was baptized. She had always wanted to be an usher but God had other plans for her. She never ushered but she did so much more in her volunteer works. She joined the Southern Baptist Church while her oldest son, Michael was still a baby in arms. Margie joined Zion Baptist Church in 2006 wanting to do whatever God directed.

Because of her disability, Margie had to retire not only from employment that she loved, but it also prevented her from continuing with schooling in her loved profession. God in his continued mercy allowed her to really get to enjoy fishing and traveling. She also enjoyed sewing, baking pies and cakes and eating with friends. She experienced a great deal of pleasure giving gifts to family and friends.

Margie leaves to mourn / celebrate her departure, transition, two biological sons, Michael (Linda Thompson) and Joseph (Sandra) and one adopted son Lamont Thomas. She also leaves her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandchildren--Shanne Gorham, Chree Thornton, Michael B. Gorham, Ashley Gorham, Daryn Gorham, Izabel Preston, Anabel Gorham, Vivana Gorham; great grandchildren-Makalah Johnson, Christen Johnson, Jiraiya Gorham, along with a host of others who adopted her as their mother. Additionally, Margie leaves two brothers; James Gorham of Baltimore, Maryland and Richard Gorham of Roswell, New Mexico, and five sisters; Myrtle Turnage, Ruby Turnage, Nancy Bennett, Ruth Gorham and Joann Wilson, all of Baltimore, Maryland. Also her adopted sister Florine and her church  family at Zion Baptist Church. She truly loved her Zion Church family and thanked God for them.
