Joanna A. Williams-Powell was born on July

18, 1961 to James R. Williams and the late Hortense

Hall. She departed from this life on June 20, 2017 after

a lengthy illness.

Joanna attended Baltimore City Public Schools. She

later became employed for Baltimore City School

System as a nursing assistant. She worked there for

over 20 years. She retired in June of 2016.

In 1983, Joanna met the love of her life, Willie (Bunny).

They had their first beautiful son together in 1985. In

2004 Joanna’s dream came true when she married

Bunny and became Mrs. Powell.

Joanna was the life of the party. She loved to cook,

listen to music and spend time with her grandsons. Her

smile would light up the room. Joanna would fuss you

out in one minute and tell you how much she loves you

the next minute. To know her was to truly love and

adore her.

She was preceded in death by one of her brothers,

Jonathan.

Joanna leaves to mourn; her husband, Willie Powell;

two children, Lakisha Lyles and Marcus Powell; one step

daughter, Tara Shuron; two grandsons, Marcus Powell,

Jr. and Ke’Mar DuBose; father, James Williams; three

brothers, Joseph, James, and Jason; four sisters in-law,

Crystal, Cynthia, Gwen and Sharita; one brother in-law, William

(Si); five nephews, Jason, Tyrell, Elisha, Steven and

Melvin; four nieces, Shakita, Shionta, Jamie and

Ayanna; four uncles, three aunts, three special friends

(more like sisters) Tina, Michelle and Joyce; two who

she loved like daughters, Melissa Murphy and Ukerra

Nelson and the rest of her family and friends who she

shared a bond with.
