Alice I. Fowlkes

August 4, 1931 ~ July 14, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

ALICE IRENE FOWLKES, beloved wife of Jerome Fowlkes, was born on August 4, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the youngest of four children born to the late John and Mable Roane. Alice, affectionately known as Mickie, graduated from Dunbar High School in 1949. Later she married the love of her life, Jerome Fowlkes and from this union, a son was born, Charles L. Fowlkes, Sr.

After graduation, she worked several small-time jobs, including working as a seamstress at a coat factory at 536 W. Pratt Street. During the mid 1960s, she secured a job as a Mail Sorter working at the Main Post Office downtown. She worked here for approximately 30 years until she retired in the 1990s. After retiring, she just sat back and enjoyed life. She loved to play the Maryland State Lottery. She would sit for hours at a time just to figure out what the numbers would be for that day.

Mickie had a happy and fulfilling life. She was always surrounded by family and friends whom she loved dearly. She had a lot of pride and love for her immediate family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed every day of her life and it would always show on her birthday. Every year, she would have a big party to celebrate another year of her life. One year in particular, she had a three-day birthday party.

She was also a very giving person. She had no problem helping people in any way that she could. She believed that if she helped someone, she would have good fortune in return. Her theory seemed to work because she was definitely one of the luckiest people you would ever want to meet.

After a medical emergency while residing at Golden Jemz Assisted Living Facility, Mickie was called to the House of the Lord on Friday, July 14, 2017

She is survived by her husband, Jerome Fowlkes; her son, Charles L. Fowlkes, Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Doris Fowlkes; five grand-children, Priscilla Giles-Wesley (Daniel), Natalie A. Fleming (Roland, Sr.); Carissa D. Fowlkes, Charles L. Fowlkes, Jr. (Nicole), and Charla L. Fowlkes; fourteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Lorraine Fowlkes; one brother-in-law, Henry Fowlkes; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
