Addie J Brice

February 12, 1936 ~ December 5, 2016 (age 80) 80 Years Old

ADDIE JEANNE BRICE was born on February 12, 1936 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She was the oldest of two daughters born to the late Nathaniel C. Small. She departed this life on December 5, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

When she was still a toddler her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Addie attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1953. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Fountain Baptist Church.

After graduation, "Addie Jean: attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, where she met her first love, Robert Banks and Nathaniel was born. A few years later, she met and married Freddie Gibson; from this union, Frederick and Tanya were born. This union didn't last long. In 1960, Addie met a soldier, John Brice and Aletha and Roslyn were born.

Addie was a devoted, stay-at-home mom who took very care of her children. When they were old enough to fend for themselves, she went back to school. Addie attended the University of Baltimore, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.

After graduation from University of Baltimore, Addie worked for MUND, which later became Urban Services of Baltimore City. She also worked at the Mayor's Station at 3319 W. Belvedede for many years interviewing and processing clients for energy assistance grants. Aftr leaving there she went to work for the Veterans Administration until her retirement on March 30, 1999. After retiring, Addie briefly worked for the Family & Children's Association, finding jobs for senior citizens.

Addie joined Homestead United Methodist Church in 1975 and was a very active member holding many positions, such as Administrative Council Chairperson, Church Treasurer, member of the Gospel Choir, Sunday School teacher, Certified Lay Speaker and President of the United Methodist Women. She loved her church family and was always willing to do whatever she could whenever needed.

Addie was a loving and caring woman who made friends with whoever and wherever she went. She loved children and many called her "Mama". She loved to cook and always fed anyone and everybody who was at her house. She had the biggest heart and was unselfish and unwavering in her service to others. She will truly be missed by many.

Addie Jean leaves to cherish her memory a loving sister, Mary Cropper(Will); and aunt, Johnnie Ruth McCoy; one daughter proceeded her in death, Aletha Brice; two sons, Nathaniel Banks(Diane) and Frederick Gibson; two daughters, Tanya Gibson and Roslyn Deshields; twelve grandsons, Sean(Candice), Marlon(Annie), Tony(Tenia), Little Johnnie(LaShawn), Robert(Monica), Cleveland(Keda), Andre, Little Nay(Netta), James, Tayvon, Darius and John-John, who proceeded her in death; two granddaughters, Carmella(Kenneth) and Candace; twenty-four great grandchildren and one on the way; two nieces, Stephany and Kimberly; one nephew, Jonathan; one goddaughter, Darlene Ballard; two devoted friends, Ada Tucker and Doris Wheeler; a special couple, Chris and Paulette Feaster; and a host of other relatives and friends.
